IPPY AWARD WINNER
An IPPY is the colloquial acronym for the Independent Publishers Book Awards (International), and in 2018 Monte picked up two separate gongs – one for Struberville: Consequences of Isolation in the True Crime Category; and one for The Egg Collector in the Literary Fiction category.
The picture above was taken at the Awards Ceremony held at the Copacabana Club in New York, where the Australia and New Zealand table distinguished itself by being the noisiest in the room.
COWLEY LITERARY AWARD WINNER
The Cowley Literary Award (not to be confused with the New Zealand author Joy Cowley Childrens’ Book Award) is a Short Story Competition named in honour of Mrs Jennifer Cowley OAM, designed to promote Australian writers and their work.
Monte won Best Non-fiction award in 2013 for “In Praise of Older Women” from his book The Nomads at Large.
WHAT READERS ARE SAYING
ANDREW TAYLOR - DEMOGRAPHER, CHARLES DARWIN UNIVERSITY
“Longrassing in Paradise is a must read for visitors, locals and anyone looking to understand the complex dynamics and issues facing Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people alike living in Australia’s Top End. Monte brings balance, understanding and knowledge to the table through stories from Longrassers themselves, along with anecdotes from other Top End characters, to knit together an entertaining, thoughtful, and enjoyable read.”
CHRISTOPHER - UK
“Met you and bought Longgrassing today at Parap market. The book is both what I was looking for, a story of the confronting people I see on my visit from Sydney, and one told with honesty and humour.”
QUENTIN
“Just read your book Struberville : Consequences of Isolation. Can honestly say I didn’t put it down it was a fantastic read, as my wife will attest, she hasn’t heard a word out of me for 6 hrs.”
GRAEME + KAREN
“I sucked myself into buying your collection of books when you visited the Big Top shopping centre in Maroochydore late last year, but hadn’t got around to reading any of them.
With no better choice on my bookshelf I thought I might as well start. I have just read The Egg Collector and must say I really loved it, it’s a classic.”
